Here’s your guide to shopping for and stocking up on gluten-free groceries when visiting Walt Disney World Resort.
Gluten-free groceries are likely not on most people’s radar when planning a trip to Walt Disney World. However, if you have celiac or avoid gluten for other reasons, planning for a trip to Walt Disney World can get stressful.
Hi, I’m Cathy, and I have celiac. I also love Walt Disney World and stay on and off property several times a year (hey, it’s a living!). Here’s where I find gluten-free groceries when I’m staying at Walt Disney World.
Target at Flamingo Crossings
My favorite off-property hotel is this Gateway Hotel. The Home2Suites where we stay has decent-sized refrigerators (smaller than my house fridge but way larger than the ones in the Moderates), dishwasher, microwave, kitchen sink, and, on request, induction cooktops. They also have several propane grills outside for guests. A three-minute walk from any of the Gateway Hotels here is a Target, but it isn’t your average target. It has a larger grocery department than any other department, and although it doesn’t have a separate gluten-free section like many Walmarts do, they have the essentials: gluten-free pasta, bread, soy sauce, and the like. (They also have a liquor store!)If you’re staying on property, this is a quick drive from the Coronado Springs area of the park. If you don’t have car, you can use Lyft to get there, or Shipt to get your groceries sent to your room.
Here’s the 411 for Target at Flamingo Crossings:
- Target, 204 Ruby Red Place, Winter Garden
- 19 minutes from Fort Wilderness in heavy traffic.
Grocery Stores in Kissimmee
Kissimmee has a treasure trove of places to find gluten-free groceries, although if you’re staying on property and not in Kissimmee, this can be a haul (and, oh, the traffic!). Nevertheless, Kissimmee has an ALDI (known for its amazing Live GFree products and its pop-culture phenom Aisle of Shame) and a Walmart. Walmarts have separate gluten-free sections, as well as having gluten-free products throughout the store.
Here’s the 411 on both Walmart and ALDI:
- Maingate. A long time ago, this was the main way into Walt Disney World, and it had a cornucopia of restaurants — but only one grocery store. That lone supermarket is long gone (RIP Goodings, beloved Orlando icon), but as the areas around Walt Disney World have grown, so have our options. Closest up Apopa Vineland Road, Winn-Dixie has a reliable selection of gluten-free groceries. Think: Bread, pasta, some snacks. They also carry some Schar gluten-free products, as well as gluten-free Oreos, pretzels, and frozen pizzas.Winn-Dixie, 11957 S, Apopka Vineland Road. 17 minutes from Fort Wilderness, in heavy traffic.
- Other options. If you want to drive more, you can find an abundance of gluten-free groceries in Orlando proper: Whole Foods (8003 Turkey Lake Road, Orlando) or any number of Publix supermarkets. Before you make that drive, though, remember: you’re at the happiest place on earth, and Orlando traffic is… not.
- Grocery delivery services. You can, of course, use a number of grocery delivery services. Please make sure you ask the front desk what address to use for the delivery address, and remember, if you order alcohol, it can’t get left at bell services. You’ll need to sign for your own booze.
- Your resort hotel. OK, so you won’t find gluten-free macaroni or frozen pizzas, but if you need s sugar fix, you can find gluten-free Enjoy Life goodies at every resort hotel on property.
