Walgreens Joins Citi Shop with Points
U.S. Citi ThankYou cardmembers can now use Shop with Points directly at the point of sale in nearly 9,000 Walgreens locations across the nation. For consumers who have a card which earns ThankYou Points, Shop with Points is easy and seamlessly incorporated in the checkout experience – it only takes a few steps:
- Shop in-store at a U.S. Walgreens store and initiate the check-out process
- Pay with an eligible Citi credit card for a purchase totaling more than $10.00
- If the payment terminal screen prompts an offer to redeem ThankYou points, select “yes” to redeem ThankYou Points for $10 off that purchase. Once selected, $10 will instantly be deducted from the total payment amount
- Receive a receipt which indicates that a reward was redeemed
In order to get a $10 discount, you would need to use 1,250 ThankYou points, which is similar to other partners. That works out to a value of 0.8 cents-per-point, which is not great. So this new redemption option only makes sense if you have a small amount of points left and you want to cash them out.
Walgreens is the newest partner to be added to Citi’s Shop with Points program which currently includes brands such as Amazon, Walmart, Dollar General, 1-800 Flowers, Shell, Best Buy, CVS, PayPal and bp/Amoco.
Over the past few years, Citi has significantly expanded the redemption options for ThankYou Points to provide even more flexibility for cardmembers. ThankYou Points can be redeemed today with hundreds of partners, ranging from The Leading Hotels of the World, Accor Live Limitless, Wyndham Rewards, and Emirates.
