Vacasa Devalues Wyndham Rewards Redemptions
Vacasa has an exclusive partnership with Wyndham Rewards. You can use your rewards points to book thousands of professionally managed vacation rentals, from beach cottages to ski cabins.
This has been, and probably still is, a great opportunity to extract more value from Wyndham Rewards points. The cost of Vacasa rentals, when booked with Wyndham rewards is 15,000 points per bedroom, per night. So a studio or one-bedroom apartment for example would cost 15,000 points per night, while a three -bedroom house costs 45,000 points per night. Taxes and fees are included when you pay with Wyndham Rewards points.
But it gets better. All Wyndham credit card members receive a 10% rebate when redeeming Wyndham points for award stays. The discount applies to Vacasa bookings as well. So cardholders would pay just 13,500 points per bedroom per night.
Devaluation
Now there’s a devaluation for Vacasa bookings with Wyndham Rewards points. Until now you could book properties that cost up to $500 per bedroom per night, including all taxes and fees. That cap is now lower, as just $350 per bedroom per night including taxes and fees.
That caps the value that you can get for your Wyndham Rewards points to just 2.6 cents-per-point. That’s not bad at all, considering that Wyndham Rewards points are usually valued around 1 cent each. But previously you could get up to 3.7 cents-per-point.
Guru’s Wrap-up
Vacasa has been a great redemption option for Wyndham Rewards members. So this news is not all that shocking.
If you were booking properties that cost up to $350 per bedroom per night, or cheaper, then this change really doesn’t affect you much. But it limits redemption options for those top properties where you could really maximize the value of your points.
