The company Unity has become one of the main focuses of attention in recent days due to the controversy that has been generated around the statement he made. The reason is that he decided to charge the studios a fee every time someone installed a game that used his graphics engine, something that has not left anyone indifferent.
The situation has gone so far that in the last few hours it has completely gotten out of hand. According to the Bloomberg portal, Unity was scheduled to hold a public meeting, but in the end it decided to cancel it and even closed two of its offices in Austin and San Francisco after its CEO, John Riccitello, considered that a credible death threat has occurred.
This has been corroborated by other portals, such as Engadget, after a Unity representative contacted them:
Today we were informed of a potential threat to some of our offices. We have taken immediate and proactive measures in order to ensure the safety of our employees, which is our top priority. We will close our offices today and tomorrow that could be potential targets of this threat, and we will fully cooperate with law enforcement in the investigation.
In fact, even Polygon has commented on the matter that the San Francisco police themselves have verified this terrible threat. Apparently, behind all this was an employee of the company itself who works out of California and used social networks to send the messages.
A situation that has gone quite far after numerous companies showed their dissatisfaction with the decision that Unity has made regarding the rates it will establish. This has caused some to warn that They will stop using the graphics engine in their video games or they will even eliminate them from digital stores because their economy would be seriously affected.
