Sadie Robertson Huff: How God’s Love Allows Us to Love Others Better
By Movieguide® Contributor
Sadie Robertson Huff and her husband Christian recently talked about their new book, “How to Put Love First,” sharing how putting God first allows us to love others well.
“When God is first in our life, when love is put first, then all of our relationships are so blessed,” Sadie told TBN. “By that, I mean the overflow of relationship with the Lord blesses every relationship in your life, whether that’s with your spouse, with your parents, with your family, with your friends.”
While culture has certain ideas about love, the Huffs understand that true love can only be found in God.
“Our culture has put a lot of ideas in front of us about what love is and how its supposed to look. You typically see that on display on Instagram with a picture of an insanely cute couple, on a romcom where everything is weirdly perfect…but we are talking about a much different and bigger picture of love in this book,” the introduction to the book reads.
“Love is a lot bigger than you might have thought. God is love,” the couple explained.
While Christians know that they need to put God first, the practicalities of actually doing this can be difficult with all the trials that occur. The Huffs do not shy away from this difficulty and address it head-on.
“This book is very practical too, in just, relationships in general,” Sadie said. “Christian talks about his road rage, and I talk about my fear and anxiety and all the things that, you know, keep us from loving people well.”
“We hope [the book] is relatable because throughout [it], we definitely expose ourselves in certain situations of, you know, somebody getting our order wrong at the drive-thru, or somebody pulling out in front of me when I’m driving,” she continued. “And I get angry. Then, it’s an old, elderly woman who is just going to drive slow by nature, maybe.”
“Really just reorienting…reactions to certain things and a lot of things kind of stem from…where you find love and where you find your purpose,” she added.
While the book is meant to help people reorient themselves, Sadie and Christian do not want people to think that they have all the answers. They hope that by talking about the struggles in their lives and in their relationship, they help people see that they are broken people too, but that doesn’t mean they cannot point others toward the Lord.
“When you’re truly anchored in love and who God is,” Sadie said. “And you have the overflow of who He is in your life, [and] you have His grace, you have His love, you have His joy to give joy, I mean it really is the best way to live your life.”
“‘How to Put Love First’ reminds you that prioritizing and deepening your love relationship with God is the key to growing healthy relationships in every area of life,” a description of the book reads.
Movieguide® previously reported on Robertson Huff:
Starring in DUCK DYNASTY at age 14 and receiving a spot on DANCING WITH THE STARS at 17, Sadie Robertson Huff said that Jesus grounded her when she became a public figure at an early age and grounds her in her marriage with Christian Huff today.
“My life just dramatically changed really fast,” Robertson Huff told Fox News. “You think about how social media affects any young person and then think about social media with millions of followers… [it] definitely will affect you in certain ways.”
Not only did she gain a public voice at a young age, but her social media following grew consistently over the years, and now the 23-year-old sits at over 3 million followers on Instagram. Robertson Huff noted that without God, this would have been a source of insecurities.
“Not that I didn’t struggle with insecurity and didn’t have my hard days, but I felt like I always had just a grounding, you know, to not just completely lose it,” Robertson Huff said.
