Uber Shuttle Service Between Manhattan and LGA
The New York City area has three airports, but getting to those airport is not easy. It is not cheap either if you rely on ride-hailing apps.
LaGuardia especially seems pretty close to major travel hubs in Manhattan, but it requires two subways and a bus to get there. Uber and Lyft and easily cost you $60 and maybe even $100. Yellow cabs can be a bit cheaper.
But now Uber has added a new option that’s not quite a private ride, but it’s not public transit either. The company is testing a new shuttle service between the Queens airport and Midtown. Trips run every half hour from three main travel hubs and cost just $9 until the end of the month.
The current promotion gets you a 50% discount. Starting on November 1st, you will have to pay the regular price of $18 each way.
If you want to take an Uber shuttle, you will have to do so at Grand Central Station, Penn Station or Port Authority. At LGA, drop-offs and pick-ups are limited to Terminals C and B. Shuttles run from 5 a.m. to 11 p.m..
Customers can reserve a maximum of four seats up to five minutes before pickup, and up to seven days in advance.
Uber has partnered with ETS Airport Shuttle Inc. to offer the service, which utilizes 14-passenger vans. Each rider can bring one personal item and one larger bag up to 50 lbs.
While this option is cheaper than taking a regular Uber ride, it is still quite limited to those who are traveling through those main hubs, or live nearby. And it will still take possibly between 40 and 60+ minutes one-way depending on traffic.
