Onions are one of those mystery foods. They can go in almost anything. I’ll even go out on a ledge and say that Onions are the bacon of the vegetable kingdom! I know they’re not for everyone, and if you don’t like them, chances are, you need them cut up smaller to enjoy!
However, people who dislike Onions might be breathing a sigh of relief after word of this recall that came earlier this week from Gills Onions of Oxnard, CA!
According to the FDA (U.S. Food & Drug Administration), the company issued a voluntary recall of its branded fresh diced onion products (5 different varieties) due to the possibility of salmonella contamination.

The onion products that have been recalled were shipped to Arizona, California, Idaho, Montana, Oregon, and Washington. The products in question are well beyond their August 2023 use-by dates, but since many people tend to freeze foods that may use the onions as an ingredient, it is better to be safe than sorry.

Anyone with the recalled product is advised not to eat them but to destroy the onions. You can contact Gills Onions through their website, GillsOnions.com for any questions or concerns. For more information on the recall from the FDA, click here.
According to the FDA, symptoms include: diarrhea, fever, and abdominal cramps. Symptoms may occur within 12 to 72 hours after eating contaminated food. If you believe you have a case of Salmonella, reach out to your healthcare professional.
