Southwest Airlines Red-Eyes Flights
Southwest Airlines is hoping to start flying red-eye flights within the next two years after first floating the idea a few months back.
The information was shared by the airline’s Chief Commercial Officer Ryan Green during a travel conference last week. Southwest would plan to fly the overnight flights in leisure markets and in places where Southwest has a large presence, such as Hawaii and Las Vegas, according to The Washington Post. He added in order to start the flights, Southwest would need to first work out some technical and labor details.
Green said the airline could fly about 50 red-eye flights per day when they launch.
A red-eye flight refers to a flight that departs at night and arrives the next morning, especially when the flight time allows for passengers to get a full night’s sleep. Red-eye flights are popular, especially for those traveling coast to coast from west to east or to Europe.
The decision to add red-eye flights comes as the Dallas-based airline is in the process of redesigning its cabins for 2025, offering slimmer new seats, adjustable headrests, and larger under-seat space. The new seats will come with personal USB-A and USB-C outlets,. However, they don’t seem very comfy.
If you fly Southwest often, you should also check out this promotion which could earn you a Promotional Companion Pass for about two months in late summer.
