The Shiba Inu development team has successfully implemented an emergency security upgrade for the Shibarium bridge.
This update came ahead of a major hard fork expected to enhance the network’s performance and scalability.
Shibarium Prepares for Key Hard Fork Following Emergency Bridge Upgrade
On November 30, Shiba Inu ecosystem developer Kaal Dhairya confirmed the completion of a major maintenance effort on the Shibarium bridge. This upgrade temporarily placed the bridge in maintenance mode to address security concerns and prepare for upcoming changes. Dhairya assured users that their funds remained safe during the process.
The bridge enables seamless and secure token transfers between Ethereum and Shibarium. During the maintenance, token burns were temporarily paused, but burn amounts continued to accumulate in the background. With the security upgrade now complete, the bridge is fully operational again.
Dhairya confirmed that while the bridge is operational, burn contract upgrades are still in progress. These enhancements will continue over the weekend and into the following week.
“Maintenance complete and the Shibarium bridge is now fully functional. We’re still working on upgrades for the burn contracts, which will continue over the weekend and into next week,” Dhairya stated.
This update arrives as Shibarium, Shiba Inu’s Layer-2 blockchain solution, prepares for a pivotal hard fork. Scheduled for early next week, the hard fork aims to optimize network performance, improve transaction speeds, and address scalability issues. These enhancements are expected to set the stage for Shibarium’s long-term growth, ensuring it can handle increased demand while maintaining efficiency.
“A hard fork is a significant protocol upgrade that can introduce new features, resolve performance bottlenecks, and improve overall functionality. For Shiba Inu’s layer-2 scalability network, the upcoming hard fork is specifically designed to increase throughput and enhance overall capacity,” the statement announced.
Since its launch last year, Shibarium has gained considerable traction. The platform has processed nearly 600 million transactions and reached its 500 millionth milestone earlier this month. Additionally, around 2 million blockchain addresses have interacted with Shibarium, and the network has successfully processed more than 8 million blocks.
So, the impending upgrade represents a strategic milestone for the Shiba Inu ecosystem, signaling its commitment to innovation and network improvement as it expands its capabilities in the blockchain space.
