PayPal Debit Card Adds 5% Categories
PayPal is improving the earning rates on its debit card with the addition of new 5% categories. You can earn 5% cash back on popular categories such as Gas (including EV charging stations), Grocery, Restaurant, Clothing or Health and Beauty.
I’m not sure if these categories are the same for everyone, or if they will change over time. The new feature is showing for PayPal users who have a debit card, but possibly not everyone. Other might see this feature added in September.
How It Works
You need to choose a 5% monthly cash back category offer each month. Your selected monthly category will expire at the end of each month and you’ll need to log into your PayPal app to choose a category offer each month, even if you select the same category.
Customers who have activated the 5% cash back monthly category feature can earn PayPal Rewards Points (that can be redeemed for cash or other options) on up to $1,000 of spend with their card in their selected monthly rewards category during a calendar month (up to $50 cash equivalent once redeemed).
How to find and activate PayPal Debit Card 5% Category?
To find and activate your PayPal Debit Card 5% monthly cash back category offer in the app (must have the latest version of the PayPal app):
- Tap Accounts.
- Tap Choose your monthly cash back category (you must have a PayPal Debit Card to choose a category).
- Select the cash back category that you would like to activate for the current month and tap Next.
- When the category offer details are shown, tap Got it.
