Traveling to the U.K.? You Might Need to Apply and Pay a Fee First
Travelers from the United States, Canada and dozens of other countries who do not require visas to enter the United Kingdom will now need to apply for digital authorization in order to visit or transit through the country. The electronic travel authorization, called ETA and linked to a traveler’s passport, costs 10 pounds, or around $13, and lasts two years. Read more
Hawaiian Airlines reveals first look at future premium lounge in Honolulu
The lounge will be located at the entrance of the Mauka Concourse in Terminal 1 and will be five times larger than the existing lounge in Honolulu. Once opened, the lounge will offer an unparalleled travel experience for both Hawaiian Airlines and Alaska Airlines guests. U.S. citizen denied entry into Poland after security staff object to handwritten notes in passport
The woman was stopped at passport control because her document contained handwritten notes of locations and airport names under visa stamps from the countries she had visited. The woman told border security staff she was unaware it was not permitted to write on passports or ID documents, Drozdz told Polish news agency PAP. She will remain at the airport for a return flight to London on Thursday. Read more
Ally lays off hundreds of employees
Ally Financial laid off hundreds of its roughly 11,000 employees Tuesday, a spokesperson confirmed Wednesday. Spokesperson Peter Gilchrist said the job cuts, which aren’t specific to any location or line of business, amount to less than 5% of its workforce. Read more
Delta’s excellent status match (status for up to 2 years)
Delta has renewed their status match challenge and, as before, it’s pretty darn generous. If you have elite status with a competing airline and have plans to fly Delta this year or next, this status match challenge is well worth considering. If you match early in the year and complete the challenge, you could get two full years of elite status. Read more
United to close lounge in Houston, but there’s good news
United Airlines is making some big changes to its premium experience at its Houston hub. Effective Jan. 15, the airline’s United Club in Terminal B at George Bush Intercontinental Airport (IAH) will close, the airline confirmed with TPG. The good news is that this closure is a harbinger of good things to come. The closure allows United to make room for a new, bigger club that’ll eventually become the largest in the entire club network. Read more
