Original Bilt Mastercard Shutting Down
Bilt Rewards and Mastercard teamed up to launch the Bilt Mastercard (issued by Evolve Bank and Trust) back in June of 2021. Then in March of 2022, Bilt partnered with Wells Fargo to launch the current version of the Bilt Mastercard.
Now Bilt is notifying those original cardholders that their card will be shut down at the end of the year, and is not giving them an option to convert to the Wells Fargo version. Instead, those original cardholders will have to apply for the Bilt World Elite Mastercard issued by Wells Fargo.
Bilt is offering those cardholders a signup bonus of 10,000 points if they apply before August 31. The expiration date for the 10,000 bonus points may vary by account. Marc points out in the comments that his offer shows a date of 8/15/2024.
Here’s the message that you will see in your account if you have the original Bilt Mastercard:
“The Bilt Mastercard is Transitioning to Wells Fargo
On 12/31/2024, Bilt will be retiring your original beta Bilt Mastercard.
Apply and get approved for the Bilt World Elite Mastercard issued by Wells Fargo N.A. to continue earing.
Limited time offer: Get 10,000 bonus points when you apply (approval not required) before 8/31/2024.”
It’s worth noting the Bilt World Elite Mastercard issued by Wells Fargo has an unadvertised signup bonus of up to 50,000 points. It’s not clear if this extra 10,000 bonus is in addition to that unadvertised bonus.
Original cardholders’ Bilt Rewards accounts and Bilt Points will not be impacted if they choose not to apply for the new Wells Fargo-issued Bilt World Elite Mastercard.
10K Bonus without Getting Wells Fargo Bilt Card
An interesting part of that 10,000 points bonus is that if only requires legacy cardholders to apply for the Bilt World Elite Mastercard issued by Wells Fargo. You don’t need to get approved in order to get the bonus.
If you are not interested in getting the Bilt World Elite Mastercard issued by Wells Fargo, then you can just freeze your credit reports and apply for the card. You will be denied, but should still get the 10,000 bonus points since you applied.
