Good Monday morning, Evanston.

Support ‘a powerful tool for fighting corruption’
A recent New York Times opinion piece describes local newspapers as “the building blocks of community, democracy, politics. Their loss is a major reason behind the acute polarization and political confusion we are suffering today.” Please support local news with a donation to the RoundTable, Evanston’s nonprofit news source. And during NewsMatch, all donations are doubled!
Ryan Field’s demolition remains on hold as Northwestern develops a “mitigation plan” for a state-mandated preservation review – the details of which are still being worked out. The current stadium was built in 1926, on land once part of the Ouilmette Reserve (above, 1920 map of earlier stadium). While the State Historic Preservation Office originally recommended the city’s Preservation Commission represent Evanston, setting up a public hearing, the city instead decided that its community development staff will review the mitigation plan “administratively.”
The city may spend $883,7000 of its pandemic relief funds on a two-year pilot program to improve health outcomes for 150 residents of census tract 8092 – the core of the Fifth Ward. The area has “substantially greater prevalence of chronic diseases such as obesity, high blood pressure, diabetes and asthma,” a city memo says. At a Human Services Committee meeting Tuesday, Whole Woman Fitness founder Neticia Waldron (above) discussed the Pathway to Wellness plan, including fitness and nutrition classes, custom meal plans and remote health monitoring.
