Some restaurants are well-known, and some are simply legendary. Michigan is full of incredible places to dine, but one very notable place has taken it up a notch being named one of the most legendary restaurants in the entire world. Not only did it make this list, it landed in the top 15.
TasteAtlas recently put together a list of the “150 Most Legendary Restaurants in the World”. As TasteAtlas says, “These are not just places to grab a meal, but destinations in their own right, comparable to the world’s most famous museums, galleries and monuments. Each one has withstood the test of time, eschewing trendy gimmicks in favor of traditional, high-quality cuisine.” They also went as far as to list the specialty dish or meal that made each place so special.
Making the list were just 14 restaurants located here in the United States, with 9 of those making the top 50. When you consider the vast realm of culinary choices across the world, having that many land in the top 50 is pretty impressive.
“These are establishments that have remained relevant and highly regarded in an ever-changing culinary landscape. Our list celebrates these enduring icons of gastronomy, the restaurants that prioritize substance over show, serving honest, no-nonsense food that is simply delectable”, TasteAtlas said.
What Michigan Restaurant Was Ranked One of the Most Legendary Restaurants in the World?
It’s not just a restaurant; it’s a full-on experience, which is why it’s one of the most popular tourist destinations in the state. Landing in the #14 spot is everybody’s favorite family-style eatery, Zehnder’s in Frankenmuth. Here’s what TasteAtlas has to say about the best place to dine in Little Bavaria;
“Zehnder’s of Frankenmuth has been a beacon of Midwest hospitality since the 1850s, welcoming millions of guests into its historically inspired dining halls. Its famed family-style chicken dinner is the cornerstone of Zehnder’s offerings, featuring platters of crispy fried chicken served alongside an array of homestyle side dishes. The recipe, perfected over generations, results in a comforting meal that continues to draw crowds, making it a cherished part of the American dining landscape.”
Let’s be honest, we aren’t surprised. Zehnder’s for many of us is a staple to our holiday season, a fond memory of family events, and of course one of our favorite places to enjoy a a great meal.
