The word “narcissist” is one of Google’s most searched terms in the United States.
The measurable data according to the Diagnostics and Statistical Manual-5 (DSM-5), is that up to approximately 15 percent of the population has some type of personality disorder that is either narcissistic, has narcissistic traits or potentially completely lacks any empathy whatsoever.
Medical News Today research suggests that NPD (Narcissistic Personality Disorder) affects between 0.5–5% of people in community samples in the United States. Across the whole population of the U.S., NPD may affect between 1–15% of people.
However, given that people high on the narcissistic spectrum are unlikely to seek therapy for their personality disorder, these statistics are likely significantly higher. To put that into perspective, there are approximately 7.9 billion people on the planet currently and about 333 million in the United States. If each one of the 15 percent of people of the global population emotionally abuses just three people in their lifetimes, that results in approximately 3.4 billion people in the world—or 150 million in the United States—being the victims of a toxic personality.
That’s why it feels like so many of us have been in relationship with someone on the narcissistic spectrum.
Narcissists are an adult form of schoolyard bully. Many people will either be friends with a narcissist, endure a romantic relationship with a narcissist, or survive a coworking experience with at least one narcissist during their lifetime. And in the world of power careers and high achievers, narcissistic bullies are common. That’s because narcissists gravitate towards professions where they can control people, all while receiving the attention (sometimes known as narcissistic supply) that they desperately crave.
Rebecca Zung has made a career of fighting this kind of narcissistic bully…and winning.
Even though Zung had already achieved much in the way of the American Dream—practicing law as a top one percent attorney in the United States—she turned her skills into becoming a globally-recognized Narcissism Negotiation Expert with 40 million views on YouTube.
Zung is also the author of the upcoming book SLAY the Bully: How to Negotiate with a Narcissist and Win (foreword written by former FBI hostage negotiator Chris Voss).
Her expertise on negotiating with narcissists has been sought after by celebrities, high-profile athletes and Fortune 500 companies alike. And there are big reasons for that.
With a 20-year background in practicing law, Zung is no stranger to the challenges of negotiating with people who exhibit narcissistic personality traits. First married at the age of 19, Zung was a college-dropout and a single mother with three children by the age of 23.
Undeterred, she went back to law school and became one of the most powerful lawyers in the nation, working in a multi-million dollar practice. Zung went on to break ties with her narcissistic business partner and build a (soon-to-be) eight-figure digital course business, rising from an attorney to a global thought leader in just three years.
Now remarried and a mother of four, Zung is committed to sharing her secrets and empowering others to live their lives at their optimum level of success—both professionally and personally.
“I’m thrilled to be able to share my expertise and experience with a wider audience,” Zung says. “My goal with this book is to give people access to knowledge, methods, and strategies to empower and help them understand the proven tactics of how to successfully negotiate with a narcissist, so that they can move forward in their lives and confidently create new beginnings and futures.”
In SLAY the Bully, Zung provides readers with a simple, step-by-step framework and easy-to-implement strategies for dealing with and communicating with narcissistic personalities, whoever they might be in your life. She explains the foundations of successful negotiations, as well as the psychology of narcissism itself and how to prepare a winning negotiating strategy, all while keeping your cool and maintaining your power mindset.
Additionally, the book covers a variety of topics related to negotiation, such as how to identify a narcissist, how to respond to their tactics, and how to negotiate in highly stressful situations. In SLAY the Bully, Zung provides readers with real-life examples of successful negotiations and offers practical tips for staying razor-focused and self-confident throughout the process.
“The ability to negotiate effectively with a narcissist is a crucial skill in any profession,” says Zung. “My book will help readers learn how to handle difficult negotiations and come out on top.”
Zung’s SLAY the Bully is very possibly the most important book on negotiation released in the last five years. It may also be the best book written in the last several decades about negotiating with high-conflict individuals and narcissistic people.
