Airlines’ hand luggage fees could be banned thanks to an upcoming EU vote
Carry-on baggage fees could soon be a thing of the past as the EU looks to simplify ticket pricing for air travel. The European Parliament’s Committee on Petitions has unanimously adopted a resolution that calls on airlines to guarantee that passengers can carry cabin baggage free of charge. It urges countries to enforce a ruling on hand luggage made by the European Court of Justice back in 2014. Read more

Hawaiian Airlines has tapped Hawai’i lifestyle brand Noho Home by Jalene Kanani Bell to design its new in-flight amenity kits and soft goods with a focus on sustainability and rooted in aloha. Read more
Get Star Alliance Gold Status For $400
As of this writing, SAS shares are pricing at 0.0441 SEK apiece. You need to own 100,000 shares to qualify for Star Gold. That’s 4,410 SEK, which is US$400. The SAS EuroBonus Shareholder Program rules require you to be a permanent resident in either Denmark, Norway or Sweden to be eligible. Read more
USAA Launches New Eagle Navigator Card
USAA has launched a new credit card called ‘Eagle Navigator’. The card isn’t listed on the credit card page but is being offered to existing users. The card has a $95 annual fee and earns 3x points on travel, and 2x points on all other purchases. You also get $100 TSA PreCheck/Global Entry Credit. Read more
Hopper Cuts 30% of Staff in Bid to Get Profitable
Hopper, the fast-growing online travel and fintech company, cut 30% of its full-time staff — around 250 employees — in a bid to get profitable, according to a published report. A spokesperson for the company told Skift the job cuts came in tandem with the twin goals to boost the company’s travel app and B2B businesses, along with being “laser-focused on continuing to build our direct global hotel supply.” That latter objective became more of a priority when in July Expedia Group removed the hotel inventory it had been supplying to Hopper, and this may have be.
