Chase Sapphire Primary Auto Rental Coverage Excludes New York Residents
Chase announced several improvements to its purchase and travel benefits back in July, as it changed its benefits administrator.
On October 1, 2024, it also launched a new Chase branded website (www.chasecardbenefits.com) where members can access their complimentary benefits and file new claims all in one place.
But with these changes, there’s also bad news for New York residents with a Chase Sapphire Preferred, or Chase Sapphire Reserve credit card. Their auto rental coverage will no longer be primary if they have their own personal insurance.
Here’s what the terms say:
Auto Rental Coverage: New York Residents, inside the United States coverage is primary unless You have personal automobile insurance in which case it is excess.
This means that if you already have coverage, the CSP/CSR auto rental coverage will be secondary for rentals in the U.S. That would be similar to the coverage offered by Amex cards. If you are in New York and want primary coverage for your rentals, now your bext option would be the Capital One Venture X card.
It’s worth noting that this change doesn’t affect rentals outside the United States, and New York residents who do not have personal auto insurance.
