American Express Auto Purchasing Program Shutting Down
The American Express Auto Purchasing Program is a version of TrueCar, a marketplace that helps people buy and sell cars online. It allows users to research, compare prices, and get financing options for new and used cars.
In the American Express version of the website, you can find participating Certified Dealers that accept eligible American Express® Cards for at least $2,000 towards a car purchase, and possibly for the full amount. You can also find deals and discount that are supposedly exclusive to the platform.
In general you can probably do better on your own, if you don’t mind negotiating with car dealers or looking online for sites and forums about the topic. One useful feature is that you can see what other buyers have paid for a specific car.
But regardless if this is a program that you like or hate, or don’t even care about, this article is about letting you know that it will shut down soon. A notice on the American Express Auto Purchasing Program website states the following:
“Effective April 28, 2025, the American Express Auto Purchasing Program will be decommissioned and no longer available. Any offers, including any upfront price offers, available through the American Express Auto Purchasing Program will expire on their stated end date. TrueCar’s Buyer’s Bonus benefits will remain available for reported purchases completed through the American Express Auto Purchasing Program until June 19, 2025. Beginning on April 28, 2025, purchases completed through the American Express Auto Purchasing Program must be reported by calling 1-877-924-2922 within 45 days of the purchase.”
Guru’s Wrap-up
I knew the program existed and I have a general idea of what it’s about, but I have never tried to use it myself.
Has anyone bought a car through the American Express Auto Purchasing Program? Let me know in the comments!
