You Can No Longer Book Cash + Points Stays on Marriott Website
Marriott has long offered a Cash + Points option, which lets you mix award nights and paid nights in a single booking. This was first introduced in 2011 and members had the option to do this online.
This can be useful when there’s a night in your stay where the cash price ight be a better deal compared to point pricing. Or in case you don’t have enough points to book your whole stay with points.
Now Marriott has strangely removed this feature from its website, as first reported by Loyalty Lobby. This happened in mid January, and Marriott showed a message on the site saying the following:
“On January 16, 2025, the functionality to book a Cash + Points Reservation (allows Guest to customize their Points and Cash use by Night) on the Marriott website was ended.
If you wish to book this way, you will have to call in and speak with reservations over the phone.”
So Marriott Bonvoy members still have the ability to mix award nights and paid nights in a single booking. However, they will need to call and do this over the phone.
It’s worth noting that there’s a downside to using this option. You will not earn points on the cash portion of these reservations.
Guru’s Wrap-up
This is a strange move by Marriott. They are removing a feature that was probably not being used much to begin with.
But I guess they want members to use it even less and they are making it more difficult t I doubt anyone dreams of calling in to book a hotel stay in 2025. In this case it’s probably even more of a headache as you need to find an agent that will know about this feature and can get it done in a timely manner.
