President Joe Biden is being “more receptive to calls of concerns” regarding his fight for re-election amid a number of campaign setbacks, a Democratic source told CNN.
Biden hasn’t made any such statements publicly and has said that he plans to stay in the race until November, but in private, his stance appears to have softened, according to the network.
“The private conversations with the hill are continuing, [and] he is being receptive, not as defiant as he is being publicly,” the source told CNN.
This comes as the 81-year-old tested positive for Covid while on the campaign trail.
The president was due to speak at the UnidosUS Annual Conference in Nevada on Wednesday evening before the news was announced.
A statement from the White House confirmed the news and said that the president would be returning home to Delaware to self-isolate in accordance with CDC guidelines, but would continue to carry out all of his duties “fully” during that time.
Biden has conducted multiple campaign events, including rallies and press interviews across the country throughout the week.
The president’s ongoing setbacks come as Donald Trump continues his victory lap at the Republican National Convention in Milwaukee, Wisconsin, this week after selecting his running mate JD Vance.
Pelosi tells Biden polls show he can’t win and will lose Democrats the House: report
Former House Speaker Nancy Pelosi told President Joe Biden during a private call that polling shows he can’t win the election in November and that he could take the Democrats’ chances of winning back the House down with him, according to CNN.
The president reportedly responded by saying that he has seen polls that indicate that he can win, with one source telling the network that he got defensive about the surveys. One source said the call took place within the last week.
In an interview last week, Pelosi said: “It’s up to the president to decide if he is going to run. We’re all encouraging him to make that decision because time is running short.”
A White House spokesperson told CNN, “President Biden is the nominee of the party. He plans to win and looks forward to working with congressional Democrats to pass his 100 days agenda to help working families.”
A spokesperson for Pelosi told the network that she hasn’t spoken to Biden since Friday.

Republicans air mixed feelings about Kamala Harris at the RNC
The short answer: No. They don’t even see it as a possibility.
Major figures in and around Trumpworld who spoke to The Independent laughed off the prospect of Biden stepping aside, which they said he’d never do. And none saw any possibility in the idea that the criticism coming from the president’s party would grow loud enough to force him out.

Trump’s campaign clarifies that his adviser does not carry a weapon when around ex-president
Donald Trump’s senior adviser Chris LaCivita has clarified that he does not carry a gun when he’s around the ex-president, who was the target of an apparent assassination attempt on Saturday.
Chris LaCivita, a senior adviser to the campaign and Trump’s de facto campaign manager, made remarks on Tuesday at a 2nd Amendment event on the outskirts of the Republican National Convention (RNC) in Milwaukee. LaCivita was being interviewed by a representative of the US Concealed Carry Association (USCCA), which advocates for such laws across the country.

Counselor said there were no reports of school bullying for Trump shooter but ‘something evil happened’ that led to shooting
Donald Trump rally shooter Thomas Crooks’ former school guidance counselor has said there was no official record that he was bullied, and that “something evil happened” which caused him to snap and decide to shoot the former president.

Biden says he would drop out of race if diagnosed with ‘medical condition’
Joe Biden said in a recent interview that he would consider dropping out of the 2024 election if he was diagnosed with a “medical condition” by a doctor.
The slight degrading of Biden’s determination to stay in the 2024 race comes just as Congressman Adam Schiff joined 20 other House Democrats to call for the president to step away from the race, saying it was “time for him to pass the torch.”
During an interview taped for BET, Biden was asked what would have to happen for him to consider dropping out of the race.

Ex-Trump aide Peter Navarro gets raucous reception at RNC hours after leaving federal prison
Navarro appeared emotional at times as he waited the applause to die down before he quipped: “I think you folks just want to know if you can see my MAGA tattoo I got there.”
His time in federal prison came after a Washington, DC jury convicted Navarro on two counts of contempt of Congress last year after he defied subpoenas for his testimony in connection with a House committee’s investigation into the events surrounding January 6 and Trump’s attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election.

Kimberly Guilfoyle returns to RNC – and brings back her yelling voice – to praise Trump and America’s future
Kimberly Guilfoyle was mocked mercilessly following her 2024 speech at the Republican National Convention, with social media users noting that she was “yelling again” during her “unhinged” address.
People were quick to reminisce about Guilfoyle’s speech at the 2020 RNC, which concluded with a defiant shout of “the best is yet to come” to an empty theater. Critics pounced on her unique delivery style once again on Wednesday.

Congressional leaders warn Biden his candidacy could jeopardize control of Congress
House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries and Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer both held private meetings with President Joe Biden last week, reportedly telling him that his staying in the race jeopardizes the party’s chances of winning back the House and keeping the Senate in November, according to The Washington Post.
Jeffries met with Biden on Thursday night at the White House while Schumer met Biden on Saturday at his Delaware beach house in Rehoboth Beach.
Both Schumer and Jeffries conveyed the feelings of their members and their concerns about Biden’s continued run for re-election, and how they may lose power in Congress, four people familiar told the paper.
In another one-on-one conversation, an individual close to the president told him that he should end his candidacy, adding that it would be the only way to save his legacy and avoid another Trump term. The president reportedly said he’s the best candidate to defeat his predecessor.
The Democratic leaders released short statements acknowledging that the meetings took place but shared little about what was said.
NBC News reported that it was a blunt meeting between Schumer and Biden and that the Senate leader provided Biden with polling data about the race and how it could impact the party.
A White House spokesperson told the outlet: “The President told both leaders he is the nominee of the party, he plans to win, and looks forward to working with both of them to pass his 100 days agenda to help working families.”
