SAN DIEGO (FOX 5/KUSI) — On Friday, the White House announced the cancellation of another $7.4 billion in student debt for nearly 300,000 Americans, including more than 23,000 people in the state of California.
A release from the Biden-Harris Administration said so far, about $10.8 billion in student debt has been cancelled for Californians.
According to the administration, the 23,170 people in California who received debt relief under President Joe Biden’s new student loan forgiveness plan are those who were enrolled in the SAVE Plan, those who were enrolled in income-driven repayment plans but did not receive relief and borrowers who received public service loan forgiveness.
There are 669,800 Californians currently enrolled in SAVE, the administration said.
